Photos of Havana and Rural Cuba

When you come out of Jose Marti Airport
in Havana, this is one of the first billboards
you see. Actually, there are no just see a
few about Che Guevara or the Castro
boys.
Sights of Havana . . . It's surprising how
quiet Havana is. With 3 million people, you
would expect crowded streets, traffic noise,
and sirens, yet there's little traffic and what
you see is straight out of the 40's and 50's.
Never heard a police or ambulance siren
the entire time I was there.
Red 1956 or 1957 Buick. Purple car may be 1956 or
1957 Chevy hybrid. This picture was taken in the
parking lot outside the Jose Marti Airport in Havana.
The Cubans there are probably waiting for their
relatives to bring them parts for the cars!
This lovely and tasteful mid-century
1950's, Eames era living room is all
original, Cuban style.

autographed walls by many of
Hollywood's A-List Directors who go
down periodically to give workshops.
Robert Redford, Oliver Stone, Martin
Scorcese and Francis Ford Coppola
have all been there.
Cuban school children way out in the country.
Their education is far ahead of ours in the U.S.
Carts and horses are common sight in rural Cuba. Most
of the horses I saw appeared malnourished.

has no electricity in his house
but says he has everything he
needs.
A small rural town outside Havana where life moves slow.
Enjoying the morning in Havana . . . .
Steps and sidewalks are a gathering
place for socializing after a day's work.

In visiting a Cuban's home, this portrait
of their father was on the wall. Such a
happy and interesting man.
